🚗 When BYD Knocks on Canada’s Door — Are We Ready?

I came home today after a satisfying routine—ping pong, a good lunch, a bit of walking—and stumbled upon a YouTube video about something quietly significant: BYD cars may soon be in Canadian showrooms.

At first glance, it feels like just another piece of auto news. But if you look a little deeper, this could be one of those “small headlines, big impact” moments.

Let me share what I see.

🌍 A Giant You May Not Fully Know Yet

BYD is not just another EV company. It has already surpassed Tesla in global sales and delivered millions of vehicles worldwide.

But unlike Tesla, BYD does something very few carmakers can do:

  • It makes its own batteries
  • It builds its own chips
  • It controls almost the entire supply chain

That’s not just efficiency—that’s power.

🇨🇦 Why Canada? Why Now?

This is where things get interesting.

Canada recently lowered tariffs on Chinese EVs from 100% to about 6%, opening the door to imports.

Suddenly, a market that was “closed” became wide open.

Now BYD is:

  • Planning up to 20 dealerships, starting in the Greater Toronto Area
  • Preparing to sell multiple models (like Dolphin, Seal, Atto 3)
  • Even considering building a factory in Canada

That last point is important. Selling cars is one thing.
Building cars here is a long-term commitment.

💰 The Real Shock: Price

Here’s what could really shake the market.

Some reports suggest:

  • Entry-level EVs could be priced under $35,000

If that becomes reality, it changes everything.

Because right now in Canada:

  • EVs are still expensive
  • Many people are “interested but waiting”

BYD may remove that hesitation.

⚖️ Opportunity vs Concern

Let’s be honest—this is not just about cars.

This is about:

  • Competition with North American automakers
  • Supply chain control
  • Technology leadership
  • Geopolitics

The United States is resisting Chinese EVs strongly.
Canada, however, seems more open—for now.

So we are in a unique position:

A testing ground between two worlds.

👀 My Personal Reflection

At my age, I’ve seen many “new waves” come and go:

  • Japanese cars in the 1970s
  • Korean cars in the 1990s
  • Tesla in the 2010s

Each time, people were skeptical.

Each time, the market changed anyway.

Now, BYD feels like the next wave—but faster and stronger.

🚶‍♂️ What This Means for Everyday People

If this unfolds as expected, in the next 1–3 years we may see:

  • More affordable EV options
  • Faster adoption of electric vehicles
  • Increased competition (good for consumers)
  • Pressure on traditional automakers to improve

And perhaps one day, after ping pong and lunch,
I might casually walk past a showroom…
and see a BYD parked beside familiar brands.

That would be something.

✍️ Final Thought

This is not just about a new car brand entering Canada.

It’s about:

How quickly the world is changing—and how quietly it happens.

Today it’s a YouTube video.
Tomorrow, it may be your neighbour’s new car.

Tesla

Canadian Senior Drivers BE READY! Major Driving License Updates

Aging Wisely: Rethinking Health Norms After 75

As we journey through life and reach our late 70s, 80s, and even 90s, it's only natural to reflect on how our bodies change—and how our health needs evolve. Many of us grew up hearing that "normal" blood pressure is 120/80, that bone strength must match that of a 30-year-old, or that regular cancer screenings are essential. But should we still be using the same health standards designed for young adults? The short answer is: not always. In fact, applying young adult norms to older adults can sometimes lead to unnecessary worry—or even harm. Let’s explore how aging changes our bodies and what that means for how we monitor our health. 🩺 Blood Pressure: A Little Higher May Be Healthier You've likely been told that 120/80 mmHg is the ideal blood pressure. But as we age, our arteries naturally stiffen. A systolic pressure between 130–140 may actually be safe and acceptable in older adults, especially if you feel well. Overly aggressive efforts to push blood pressur...
