Every person is born with a biological blueprint that helps shape who we become. But life is not only determined by our beginnings. Along the journey, we encounter choices, challenges, unexpected turns, and moments that test our strength.
To me, fate is not a fixed destination. It is a living episode — a continuing story that gives us opportunities to choose how we respond. We can choose to improve, to learn, to contribute, or we can choose to give up. The meaning of our existence comes from the choices we make and the values we leave behind.
One of my deepest wishes is to preserve the continuity of knowledge, experiences, and memories. A person's life is not only measured by achievements or possessions, but also by the lessons learned, the struggles overcome, and the wisdom shared with others.
My own journey has reminded me many times that life is precious. I was born with the umbilical cord around my neck, yet I survived. Many years later, I faced a serious health challenge with chronic subdural hematoma and underwent brain surgery. Looking back, I feel grateful that I recovered under almost ideal conditions. These experiences strengthened my desire to continue learning, to appreciate each day, and to share what I have experienced.
The people around me have also inspired me. Seeing my former classmates continue to pursue their passions after decades of life experience has given me encouragement and motivation.
Dr. James Hung, an eye specialist and author, has shown that professional knowledge and lifelong learning can continue beyond retirement. James Wong, a music producer, lyricist, and songwriter, has demonstrated the power of creativity and passion throughout life. Philip Chan Yan Kin, a police superintendent, film producer, and author, has reminded me that one person's experiences can become valuable stories for future generations.
Their journeys remind me that age should not be the end of curiosity or contribution. Instead, it can be a new chapter.
I would like to leave my stories behind not because my life is extraordinary, but because every life carries lessons worth remembering. My experiences with family, friendship, health, challenges, technology, and personal growth are pieces of a larger human story.
Perhaps these stories may encourage someone else to keep learning, keep improving, and keep moving forward.
This is my reason for writing.
This is my reason for leaving my stories behind.
