Every grandpa has a journey. Some paths are smooth, some are rocky, and some are filled with quiet moments that leave deep marks on the heart. My own journey began in hardship, but it grew into gratitude, love, and lifelong respect for family and friendship.
This is part of my Grandpa Journey — a story shaped by struggle, strengthened by love, and inspired by the people who walked beside me.
1. Childhood Hardships That Shaped My Life
One of my earliest memories dates back to when I was only three years old the third year after World War 2 . Life in Hong Kong during those days was extremely tough. I can still see the scene as if it happened yesterday.
My mother carried my one-year-old younger brother on her back while holding my small hand, walking toward the Wan Chai market. Over her shoulder was a long bamboo pole with two baskets hanging from each end — filled with pork she would sell on the streets.
She worked under the sun, under the rain, and under the pressure of survival. After selling what she could, she carried my brother again and we walked home — my hand in hers, step by step.
That was the age when I first understood:
hardshipperseverance
love stronger than hunger or poverty
Those early days carved lifelong values into my heart.
2. The Values I Carry as a Grandpa Today
❤️ Love of Mother
I learned early what true strength looks like. My mother was small in size but enormous in spirit. Everything I am today began with her courage.
🤝 Brotherhood
My younger brother and I survived those difficult years together. That bond shaped how I treasure family and friendship.
👬 Respect for Friendship
When life is hard, friends who stand by you are worth more than gold. I still carry this belief today — friendship is one of the most precious gifts in life.
📚 Hunger for Learning
Since childhood, I understood that education was the only path out of poverty.
This planted a lifelong eagerness to learn — even now, as a grandpa exploring AI, writing blogs, and sharing stories.
These values guide me every day, and I still pass them on to younger generations.
3. Lessons Worth Sharing With My Children and Grandchildren
As a grandpa, my stories are not about showing how hard the past was —
they are about showing how strong love can be.
From hardship comes gratitude.
From struggle comes wisdom.
From simple days comes a deeper appreciation for life.
My journey reminds me to tell the younger generation:
love your siblings
keep good friends
stay humble
never stop learning
treat people with kindness
be grateful for every small blessing
These are life lessons no school can teach—lessons learned from living.
4. Why I Share My Stories Today
At this stage of life, I’m not writing for fame or recognition.
I simply want to leave a legacy of stories that may one day inspire my grandchildren and others who read my blog.
Your journey may be different, but every story has value.
If my experiences — the hardships, the love, the lessons — can touch someone’s heart or give them strength, then sharing is worthwhile.
This is the heart of my Grandpa Journey.
