Following our recent long-term care interview experience, we moved on to the next important step…
A Step Forward: My Long-Term Care Application Journey
I am sitting at Markville Mall, enjoying a simple cup of coffee ☕—and reflecting on a meaningful step Julie and I have just taken.
Our long-term care application is now submitted smoothly, and everything seems to be moving in the right direction. At this stage, we are awaiting confirmation, and we trust that things will continue to go well.
One important part of the process was selecting our preferred locations. We have already made five choices based on our food preference, traffic, and accessibility. It gives us a sense of direction and peace of mind. It feels good not to leave everything to the last minute.
Another key development is that the Long-Term Care Office has arranged for a personal support service to begin next Wednesday. A caregiver will come to assist me with bathing. This is something new for me, and I see it as a practical step toward maintaining daily comfort and safety.
I believe this experience reflects an important lesson: planning ahead is better than reacting too late. Many people may hesitate when it comes to long-term care, but taking early action gives us more control, more options, and less stress.
At this stage of life, accepting help does not mean losing independence. In fact, it helps us preserve our quality of life and dignity.
For now, I will take things one step at a time—starting with next Wednesday’s visit—and continue to observe, adjust, and move forward.
Life goes on, and even small steps like this are worth noting.
