Today was an ordinary day, but one that quietly reminded me what it means to grow older with dignity.

In the afternoon, a personal care worker came to help with my bathing. Before we began, I told her openly that I had undergone brain surgery, and that my legs are still weak. I explained that while my balance is generally steady, I wanted her presence mainly for safety—to make sure I wouldn’t slip and fall.

I did the bathing myself, just as I always have. She stood nearby, attentive but respectful, ready to help if needed. There was no rush, no pressure—just a calm understanding.

What I appreciated most was her attitude. She listened carefully, understood my situation, and supported me without taking away my independence. Before leaving, she reassured me that she would return next week at the same time.

Moments like this may seem small, but they carry meaning. As we age, we often face a quiet tension between wanting to remain independent and recognizing the need for support. Today, I felt that balance clearly.

Independence does not mean doing everything alone.
Sometimes, it means having the wisdom to accept a helping hand—
not to replace our strength, but to protect it.

This is what I would call living with a safety net.

And in that space, there is both confidence and peace.

今天是平凡的一天，卻讓我再次體會到，什麼叫做有尊嚴地慢慢變老。

下午，一位個人護理員上門協助我洗澡。在開始之前，我坦誠地告訴她，我曾經做過腦部手術，雙腿仍然比較無力。我也向她說明，其實我的平衡力還可以，但我需要她在旁，是為了安全——確保不會滑倒。

整個過程中，我仍然是自己完成洗澡，就像一直以來那樣。她只是靜靜地在旁邊留意著，在需要時隨時準備幫助。沒有催促，沒有干擾，只有一份自然的理解與配合。

我特別欣賞她的態度。她細心聆聽，理解我的情況，在不影響我自主的情況下給予支持。臨走前，她還告訴我，下星期同一時間會再來。

這樣的時刻，看似微小，卻很有意義。隨著年紀漸長，我們常常在「保持獨立」與「需要幫助」之間，尋找一種微妙的平衡。今天，我清楚地感受到這一點。

獨立，並不代表凡事都要自己一個人完成。
有時候，它意味著有智慧去接受一份幫助——
不是取代我們的能力，而是保護我們的能力。

這，就是我所理解的——
有安全網的生活。

而在這樣的狀態中，我感到安心，也更有信心。
