My Celebrity Solstice Cruise: A Journey Through Asia Embarking on an Unforgettable Adventure

 Day 8 | 1 Feb 2025 | At Sea

With Vietnam behind us and Thailand ahead, the open sea stretched infinitely in every direction. A full day at sea meant a chance to unwind and indulge. Some passengers lounged by the pool with cocktails in hand, while others savored quiet moments at the library or engaged in enrichment talks about Thai culture. The hum of conversation, the occasional splash from the pool, and the clinking of glasses filled the air. The excitement was palpable—Bangkok awaited.

Day 9 | 2 Feb 2025 | Laem Chabang (Bangkok)

As the sun rose, Celebrity Solstice glided into Laem Chabang, Thailand’s bustling gateway to Bangkok. The anticipation built as passengers prepared for their excursions—some opting for the long but rewarding journey into the heart of Thailand’s capital, while others explored Pattaya’s lively shores and cultural landmarks.

For those venturing into Bangkok, the city did not disappoint. The drive itself was a fascinating introduction to the contrasts that define Thailand—towering skyscrapers next to humble street stalls, golden temples amidst modern malls. The energy was infectious.

Local tender boats

Since Koh Samui lacks a deep-water port, the cruise ship anchored offshore, and passengers were transported ashore via local tender boats. The tendering process began early in the morning, with designated groups boarding the boats in intervals.

The ride to the pier took about 10-15 minutes, offering scenic views of the island’s coastline. Guests were advised to return to the ship well before the last tender departure in the late afternoon to ensure a smooth reboarding process.

Tender Safety Tips:

Follow crew instructions and wait for your assigned boarding time to avoid overcrowding.

  • Use handrails when stepping onto the tender boat, as movement can be unpredictable.
  • Wear comfortable shoes with good grip to prevent slipping.
  • Stay seated during the ride and avoid standing up unnecessarily.
  • Keep personal belongings secure to prevent them from falling overboard.

Bangkok is a city that never truly slows down. By day, it dazzles with the grandeur of the Grand Palace, the serene beauty of Wat Arun, and the reclining majesty of Wat Pho. The floating markets, brimming with colors and flavors, offered a glimpse into a way of life unchanged for generations.

Day 10 | 3 Feb 2025 | Bangkok, Thailand

For shoppers, Chatuchak Market was a labyrinth of delights, while the sleek malls of ICONSIAM and MBK Center catered to those looking for a more modern retail experience. And of course, the street food—aromatic Pad Thai sizzling on roadside woks, fiery Tom Yum Goong, and sweet Mango Sticky Rice that melted in the mouth—was a feast for the senses.

As the sun set, the city transformed yet again. Rooftop bars offered breathtaking views of Bangkok’s skyline, while the vibrant nightlife of Sukhumvit and the backpacker haven of Khao San Road pulsed with music and laughter. Bangkok was an experience, not just a destination.

Day 11 | 11 Feb 2025 | Koh Samui, Thailand

The change in pace from Bangkok’s whirlwind energy to Koh Samui’s laid-back paradise was refreshing. The moment we arrived, the island welcomed us with warm breezes and postcard-perfect scenery—palm-fringed beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery everywhere.

Some passengers headed straight for the famous beaches of Chaweng and Lamai, soaking up

the sun and dipping into the inviting sea. Others ventured to cultural sites like the

Big Buddha Temple, its golden figure standing watch over the island. For those seeking

nature’s tranquility, Na Muang Waterfalls provided a peaceful retreat, with the

sound of cascading water creating a soothing backdrop.

At Fisherman’s Village in Bophut, we wandered through quaint streets lined with charming shops and restaurants, enjoying fresh seafood with ocean views. The relaxed island vibe was the perfect contrast to Bangkok’s bustling pace—a reminder of Thailand’s incredible diversity.

Day 12 | 12 Feb 2025 | At Sea

As we left Thailand behind and sailed towards Singapore, there was a sense of reflection among passengers. The last leg of our journey was upon us, and the time at sea allowed us to absorb the memories we had made. Some gathered for final drinks at the Sunset Bar, while others simply enjoyed the rhythmic sway of the ocean.

Soon, we would dock in Singapore, marking the end of an unforgettable voyage. But the stories—of bustling markets, golden temples, island escapes, and endless ocean horizons—would stay with us forever.

More highlights to come as I recount the final days of this extraordinary adventure!

Day 12 | 12 Feb 2025 | At Sea

Day 13 | 13 Feb 2025 | Singapore

As Celebrity Solstice cruise docked at Marina Bay Cruise Centre, I felt a wave of excitement. Singapore, the Lion City I heard so much about, was finally within reach. Over the next three days, I discovered a place where history, innovation, and culture collide in the most fascinating ways. From its humble beginnings as a fishing village to its rise as a global powerhouse, Singapore’s story is as captivating as its skyline. And my stay at the Furama RiverFront Hotel—a cozy, welcoming base in the heart of the city—made the experience even more memorable.

A Glimpse into Singapore’s Past

Singapore’s history is a tale of transformation. Once a sleepy fishing village, it was transformed into a bustling trading hub by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. Over the years, it evolved from a British colony to a thriving independent nation. Today, it’s a gleaming metropolis known for its skyscrapers, clean streets, and multicultural harmony. But beneath its modern facade, Singapore hasn’t forgotten its roots. Colonial-era landmarks like the Raffles Hotel and Victoria Theatre stand proudly alongside futuristic marvels, reminding visitors of the city’s rich heritage.

Furama RiverFront: My Home Away from Home

I stayed at the Furama RiverFront Hotel, a comfortable and conveniently located spot that made exploring the city a breeze. The hotel’s warm hospitality and modern amenities were a perfect match for my adventure-filled days. After long hours of sightseeing, it was a joy to return to its cozy rooms and refreshing pool. Plus, its central location meant I was just a short ride away from Singapore’s most iconic attractions.

Marina Bay Sands: A Symbol of Modern Singapore

No visit to Singapore is complete without experiencing Marina Bay Sands. This architectural marvel is more than just a hotel—it’s a lifestyle destination. I spent hours exploring the Sands Casino, trying my luck at the tables, and wandering through the luxurious Sands Shopping Mall. The mall is a shopper’s paradise, with high-end boutiques, international brands, and unique local stores. But what truly stole the show for me were the eating places.

The food courts at Sands Shopping Mall were a culinary adventure. I indulged in local specialties like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay, each dish bursting with flavor and reflecting Singapore’s multicultural heritage. For a more upscale experience, I dined at one of the mall’s waterfront restaurants, savoring chili crab—a Singaporean classic that’s as messy as it is delicious. The blend of local and international cuisines was a testament to Singapore’s status as a global food hub.

The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. Standing 57 stories above the ground, I felt like I was on top of the world. The infinity pool, reserved for hotel guests, looked like a dream, but even without access, the observation deck was worth every second.

Gardens by the Bay: A Futuristic Oasis

One of the most unforgettable experiences of my trip was visiting Gardens by the Bay. The Supertree Grove, with its towering vertical gardens, is a sight to behold, especially during the nightly light show. As the trees lit up in sync with music, I felt like I was in a magical wonderland. The Cloud Forest and Flower Dome were equally mesmerizing, with their lush greenery, misty waterfalls, and vibrant blooms. It’s no wonder this place is a must-see for every visitor.

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus: Sightseeing Made Easy

To make the most of my time, I hopped on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus, a convenient and fun way to explore the city. The bus took me past iconic landmarks like the Merlion Park, Clarke Quay, and Orchard Road. The open-top deck offered stunning views of Singapore’s skyline, and the flexibility to hop off at any stop allowed me to explore at my own pace. It was the perfect way to see the city’s highlights without missing a beat.

Exploring Marina Bay and Beyond

Marina Bay itself is a hub of activity. I took a leisurely stroll along the walking street, soaking in the views of the bay, the iconic Merlion statue, and the glittering skyscrapers that define Singapore’s skyline. The city’s highways, sleek and efficient, are a testament to its world-class infrastructure. Everywhere I looked, there was something to marvel at—whether it was the futuristic architecture, the meticulously maintained green spaces, or the vibrant energy of the people.

Changi Airport: An Experience in Itself

Even my departure was an adventure. Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 is more than just a transit hub—it’s a destination. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by cutting-edge technology, stunning art installations, and lush greenery. The kinetic rain sculpture, a mesmerizing display of moving droplets, left me in awe. And the shopping facilities were a shopper’s paradise, offering everything from luxury brands to local souvenirs. I couldn’t resist picking up a few last-minute gifts before my flight.

A City That Leaves You Inspired

As I boarded my flight home, I couldn’t help but reflect on my time in Singapore. It’s a city that dazzles with its modernity but also touches your heart with its warmth and spirit. From the awe-inspiring Gardens by the Bay to the bustling food courts, from the gleaming skyscrapers to the efficient highways, Singapore is a city that has it all.

But beyond the sights and sounds, what stayed with me was the story of a nation that defied the odds and built a future that inspires the world. Singapore is more than just a destination—it’s a testament to what can be achieved with vision, resilience, and unity.

To my friends and readers, if you haven’t been to Singapore yet, add it to your list. It’s not just a place to visit; it’s an experience to cherish. And to Singapore, thank you for the memories. You’ve left an indelible mark on my heart.

Final Thoughts

Having sailed with Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises before, I immediately noticed that Celebrity Solstice felt relatively smaller in comparison. With a capacity of 2,850 guests, it lacks some of the larger venues and high-energy activities I’ve experienced on other cruise lines. For example, there were no rock climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, or large-scale sports facilities that I had enjoyed on other ships. While the Lawn Club with real grass was a unique touch, overall, the onboard entertainment felt somewhat limited. The live shows and performances, while enjoyable, lacked variety and the "wow factor" I had come to expect from bigger cruise lines.

That being said, the service was impeccable, and the ship maintained a relaxed, elegant atmosphere, with variety of food making it ideal for those who prefer a quieter, more leisure cruising experience.
