A Peaceful Escape to Zhongshan: Romance, Convenience, and Culinary Delights (DeepSeek assisted)

First of all, I take this opportunity to thank David for driving us around showing us the beauty of Zhongshan.

On January 14, 2025, my journey brought me to the charming city of Zhongshan, a hidden gem in Guangdong Province, China. Known for its rich history, serene landscapes, and warm hospitality, Zhongshan offered the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and unforgettable culinary experiences. Over the next few days, I discovered the city’s romantic spots, convenient accommodations, and some of the most delicious food I’ve ever tasted.

Arrival and a Visit to Kaiyin New City凱茵新城

Our adventure began with a visit to David a friend in Kaiyin New City, a tranquil oasis in the heart of Zhongshan. The garden’s lush greenery, traditional pavilions, and peaceful ponds made it an ideal spot to reconnect with nature and catch up with an old friend. As we strolled through the garden, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of calm and nostalgia—it was the perfect way to start our trip.

Lodging at My Hao Hotel 迈豪酒店: Romance by Yuetpei Bay

After our visit, we checked into the My Hao Hotel迈豪酒店, located in the picturesque Yuetpei Bay. The hotel’s panoramic views of the bay were nothing short of breathtaking. Watching the sun set over the water, with the city lights twinkling in the distance, was a truly magical experience. The hotel’s location was incredibly convenient, and the price was surprisingly reasonable for such a stunning setting.

One of the highlights of our stay was the Lovers’ Walk, a peaceful and romantic promenade along the bay. As we strolled hand in hand, the gentle breeze and the sound of the waves created an atmosphere of pure serenity. It was the perfect spot for couples to unwind and enjoy each other’s company.

Switching to Fortune Hotel 幸福酒店 : A Budget-Friendly Gem

The following day, we decided to switch things up and moved to the Fortune Hotel 幸福酒店 in the town center. The hotel was much more affordable, yet it didn’t compromise on comfort or convenience. Its central location made it easy to explore the city, and it was just a stone’s throw away from the Hema Supermarket—a place that would soon become one of the most memorable parts of our trip.

Hema 阿里巴巴盒馬超市: A Thrilling Shopping Experience

Visiting Hema Supermarket was an unexpected highlight of our time in Zhongshan. From the moment we stepped inside, we were blown away by the creativity and dedication to customer satisfaction. The supermarket offered a wide range of products, from fresh produce to household items, all at excellent prices. The quality of the goods was outstanding, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.

What truly stood out, though, was the innovative approach to service. The supermarket had interactive displays, sampling stations, and even a small café where shoppers could take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee. It was clear that Hema Supermarket was designed with the customer in mind, and it made shopping feel like an adventure rather than a chore.

Culinary Adventures in Zhongshan

No trip to Zhongshan would be complete without indulging in its incredible food scene. During our stay, we enjoyed several unforgettable dining experiences that left us craving more.

Ching Fung Yue Restaurant 正丰魚:

This restaurant is famous for its fish recipes, and it did not disappoint. The fish was incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a testament to the chef’s skill and the restaurant’s commitment to quality. If you’re a seafood lover, Ching Fung Yue 正丰魚 is a must-visit.

Harbour City Zhongshan 中山海港城 :

For a world-class dim sum experience, we headed to Hoi Kong Shing Harbour City. The restaurant’s spacious and beautifully designed venue was the perfect setting for a leisurely meal. The dim sum was exquisite—delicate, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. It’s no wonder this place is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Shek Kei Roasted Pigeon:

One of the most memorable meals of our trip was the roasted pigeon at Shek Kei Restaurant. This iconic dish is a specialty of Zhongshan, and Shek Kei is renowned for serving the best in town. The pigeon was perfectly roasted—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. It was a culinary masterpiece that we’ll never forget. (Note: Shek Kei is a well-known restaurant in Zhongshan, celebrated for its traditional roasted pigeon.)

Reflections on Our Zhongshan Adventure

As our trip came to an end, I couldn’t help but reflect on the wonderful experiences we had in Zhongshan. From the romantic strolls along Yuetpei Bay to the thrilling shopping spree at Hema Supermarket, and the unforgettable meals at Ching Fung Yue, Hoi Kong Shing Harbour City, and Shek Kei, every moment was filled with joy and discovery. The city’s blend of natural beauty, modern convenience, and warm hospitality made it a destination I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful yet exciting getaway.

Zhongshan may not be as well-known as some of China’s larger cities, but it has a charm and character all its own. Whether you’re traveling with a loved one, exploring with friends, or simply seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Zhongshan has something to offer everyone.

Tips for Future Travelers:

Stay by Yuetpei Bay: If you’re looking for romance and relaxation, My Hao Hotel is a fantastic choice.

Explore the Town Center: Fortune Hotel is a great base for exploring Zhongshan’s vibrant town center.

Visit Hema Supermarket: Don’t miss this unique shopping experience—it’s fun, affordable, and full of surprises.

Indulge in Local Cuisine: Make sure to try the fish at Ching Fung Yue, the dim sum at Hoi Kong Shing Harbour City, and the roasted pigeon at Shek Kei.

Zhongshan may not be on everyone’s travel radar, but it’s a city that deserves to be discovered. I left with a heart full of memories, a satisfied palate, and a promise to return someday. If you’re planning a trip to Guangdong, make sure to add Zhongshan to your itinerary—you won’t regret it!

Singapore: A City Where History Meets Modern Magic

Day 12 | 12 Feb 2025 | At Sea
Day 13 | 13 Feb 2025 | Singapore

As Celebrity Solstice cruise docked at Marina Bay Cruise Centre, I felt a wave of excitement. Singapore, the Lion City I heard so much about, was finally within reach. Over the next three days, I discovered a place where history, innovation, and culture collide in the most fascinating ways. From its humble beginnings as a fishing village to its rise as a global powerhouse, Singapore’s story is as captivating as its skyline. And my stay at the Furama RiverFront Hotel—a cozy, welcoming base in the heart of the city—made the experience even more memorable.

A Glimpse into Singapore’s Past

Singapore’s history is a tale of transformation. Once a sleepy fishing village, it was transformed into a bustling trading hub by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. Over the years, it evolved from a British colony to a thriving independent nation. Today, it’s a gleaming metropolis known for its skyscrapers, clean streets, and multicultural harmony. But beneath its modern facade, Singapore hasn’t forgotten its roots. Colonial-era landmarks like the Raffles Hotel and Victoria Theatre stand proudly alongside futuristic marvels, reminding visitors of the city’s rich heritage.

Furama RiverFront: My Home Away from Home

I stayed at the Furama RiverFront Hotel, a comfortable and conveniently located spot that made exploring the city a breeze. The hotel’s warm hospitality and modern amenities were a perfect match for my adventure-filled days. After long hours of sightseeing, it was a joy to return to its cozy rooms and refreshing pool. Plus, its central location meant I was just a short ride away from Singapore’s most iconic attractions.

Marina Bay Sands: A Symbol of Modern Singapore

No visit to Singapore is complete without experiencing Marina Bay Sands. This architectural marvel is more than just a hotel—it’s a lifestyle destination. I spent hours exploring the Sands Casino, trying my luck at the tables, and wandering through the luxurious Sands Shopping Mall. The mall is a shopper’s paradise, with high-end boutiques, international brands, and unique local stores. But what truly stole the show for me were the eating places.

The food courts at Sands Shopping Mall were a culinary adventure. I indulged in local specialties like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay, each dish bursting with flavor and reflecting Singapore’s multicultural heritage. For a more upscale experience, I dined at one of the mall’s waterfront restaurants, savoring chili crab—a Singaporean classic that’s as messy as it is delicious. The blend of local and international cuisines was a testament to Singapore’s status as a global food hub.

The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. Standing 57 stories above the ground, I felt like I was on top of the world. The infinity pool, reserved for hotel guests, looked like a dream, but even without access, the observation deck was worth every second.

Gardens by the Bay: A Futuristic Oasis

One of the most unforgettable experiences of my trip was visiting Gardens by the Bay. The Supertree Grove, with its towering vertical gardens, is a sight to behold, especially during the nightly light show. As the trees lit up in sync with music, I felt like I was in a magical wonderland. The Cloud Forest and Flower Dome were equally mesmerizing, with their lush greenery, misty waterfalls, and vibrant blooms. It’s no wonder this place is a must-see for every visitor.

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus: Sightseeing Made Easy

To make the most of my time, I hopped on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus, a convenient and fun way to explore the city. The bus took me past iconic landmarks like the Merlion Park, Clarke Quay, and Orchard Road. The open-top deck offered stunning views of Singapore’s skyline, and the flexibility to hop off at any stop allowed me to explore at my own pace. It was the perfect way to see the city’s highlights without missing a beat.

Exploring Marina Bay and Beyond

Marina Bay itself is a hub of activity. I took a leisurely stroll along the walking street, soaking in the views of the bay, the iconic Merlion statue, and the glittering skyscrapers that define Singapore’s skyline. The city’s highways, sleek and efficient, are a testament to its world-class infrastructure. Everywhere I looked, there was something to marvel at—whether it was the futuristic architecture, the meticulously maintained green spaces, or the vibrant energy of the people.

Changi Airport: An Experience in Itself

Even my departure was an adventure. Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 is more than just a transit hub—it’s a destination. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by cutting-edge technology, stunning art installations, and lush greenery. The kinetic rain sculpture, a mesmerizing display of moving droplets, left me in awe. And the shopping facilities were a shopper’s paradise, offering everything from luxury brands to local souvenirs. I couldn’t resist picking up a few last-minute gifts before my flight.

A City That Leaves You Inspired

As I boarded my flight home, I couldn’t help but reflect on my time in Singapore. It’s a city that dazzles with its modernity but also touches your heart with its warmth and spirit. From the awe-inspiring Gardens by the Bay to the bustling food courts, from the gleaming skyscrapers to the efficient highways, Singapore is a city that has it all.

But beyond the sights and sounds, what stayed with me was the story of a nation that defied the odds and built a future that inspires the world. Singapore is more than just a destination—it’s a testament to what can be achieved with vision, resilience, and unity.

To my friends and readers, if you haven’t been to Singapore yet, add it to your list. It’s not just a place to visit; it’s an experience to cherish. And to Singapore, thank you for the memories. You’ve left an indelible mark on my heart.
