Good afternoon, friends.
This morning turned out to be busier than I had planned. I headed to the ServiceOntario centre at 50 Bloomington Road West for my senior driver’s licence renewal appointment, scheduled for 10:15 a.m. I thought I was well prepared—but life always finds a way to add a small twist.
I almost missed the place.
Without realizing it, I drove past 50 Bloomington Road and kept going all the way to 320 Bloomington, near the Catholic School Board building. Something didn’t feel right. I made a U-turn, went back toward Yonge and Bloomington, and then drove east a little. I finally stopped the car and called the ServiceOntario centre directly to ask for directions.
That phone call made all the difference.
As I approached the intersection again, I noticed a small entrance to a brown building—easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully. I turned in, parked, and there it was, right in front of me. A narrow miss, but I made it. I walked in at 10:10 a.m., just in time.
The Test Itself: Simple and Friendly
Once inside, everything was very straightforward.
First, I took a ticket and waited briefly for my number to be called. When it was my turn, I went to the window and met a very kind and friendly lady. I even shared my little adventure of almost losing my way, and we had a light moment together. That alone helped me relax.
The actual process was simple:
-
Vision test
-
Clock drawing test — drawing a circle and showing the time 10 minutes past 11
That was it.
No trick questions. No pressure. No rushing.
When I finished, the staff member smiled and said, “Congratulations, you passed.” She printed out a temporary driver’s licence for me on the spot and explained that the official licence would arrive by mail in about four weeks.
A Message to My Friends and Readers
I want to say this clearly, especially to fellow seniors who may be feeling anxious:
There is no need to worry about this test.
If I can do it, you can do it too.
The staff are respectful, the process is fair, and the goal is simply to ensure we are safe and capable drivers. It’s not about trying to take anything away from us—it’s about responsibility and care, both for ourselves and for others on the road.
My Takeaway
Preparation helps, but calm matters even more.
Arrive with a little time to spare, wear your glasses, take a deep breath, and trust yourself.
This was just another small chapter in the ongoing journey of aging with awareness—and with confidence.
Until next time,
David
