Julie and I joined a BBQ karaoke gathering with our ping pong friends at Kingview Court, 90 Dew Street in King City. It was only about a 20-minute drive from our home, but the experience felt like a mini holiday filled with laughter, music, teamwork, and wonderful surprises.
We arrived around 11 a.m., and some friends were already standing outside the building chatting happily under the sunshine. The atmosphere was relaxed right from the beginning. Before long, everyone moved into the lounge and backyard area to begin setting up.
One of the first surprises of the day came from Daniel, who brought along a professional karaoke setup from home. He carefully connected everything — mixer, wireless microphones, screen, and sound system — while Kingview Court provided a large projector screen that made the whole event feel like a real concert hall. Suddenly, our casual gathering turned into a mini music festival.
Meanwhile, the backyard quickly became a busy outdoor kitchen.
Friends arranged trays of food on the tables:
- marinated chicken wings,
- sirloin ribs,
- sausages,
- chopped salmon heads,
- colorful bell peppers,
- cucumbers,
- large mushrooms,
- Signature Grilled Pork Neck
Someone realized we still needed propane for the BBQ stove, so a quick trip was made to buy it. No complaints — everyone simply worked together naturally. That spirit of cooperation made the gathering feel even warmer.
As the BBQ started sizzling, delicious smells filled the backyard. People chatted, laughed, walked around with drinks, and encouraged each other to sing. Some friends who were usually quiet suddenly became stars with surprisingly good singing voices. Others revealed hidden talents as chefs, organizers, and entertainers.
Honestly, one of the biggest discoveries of the day was this:
We have so many talented people in our ping pong group.
Some could sing beautifully.
Some cooked like restaurant chefs.
Some organized everything smoothly behind the scenes.
Some kept the mood lively and cheerful all afternoon.
And perhaps the biggest surprise of all was this:
the fun and happiness far exceeded our expectations, yet the cost was very reasonable — only about $12 per person.
Nowadays, many people think enjoyment must be expensive. But this gathering proved something different. When good people come together with positive energy, teamwork, food, music, and friendship, the value becomes far greater than money.

Most importantly, thanks to all the friends who came and enjoyed the day together.
As we drove home later that evening, Julie and I both felt the same thing:
this was not simply a BBQ or karaoke party.
It was a reminder that friendship, community, laughter, and shared moments are some of the greatest treasures in life.
And judging from everyone’s smiles and feedback afterward, I think we are all already looking forward to the next gathering.

不只是燒烤與卡拉 OK —— 一場充滿友情、才華與歡樂的聚會
我和 Julie 參加了一場與乒乓球朋友們舉辦的 BBQ 卡拉 OK 聚會，地點在 King City 的 Kingview Court（90 Dew Street）。從我們家開車大約二十多分鐘，雖然不算遠，但這次聚會卻像是一趟充滿歡笑、音樂與友情的小旅行。
我們大約上午 11 點到達，已經有幾位朋友在大樓前聊天等候。陽光明媚，氣氛非常輕鬆愉快。沒多久，大家便進入休息室與後院，開始準備當天的活動。
首先讓人驚喜的是 Daniel 帶來了一套非常專業的卡拉 OK 設備，包括混音器、無線咪高峰、螢幕等，而 Kingview Court 方面更提供了大型投影屏幕，整個場地瞬間變成了一個小型演唱會現場。
另一邊，後院則很快變成了熱鬧的戶外廚房。
桌上擺滿了各式各樣的食材：
- 醃製雞翼（中段）
- 西冷牛肋骨
- 香腸
- 切塊三文魚頭
- 各種顏色的甜椒
- 青瓜
- 大蘑菇
- 猪颈肉特色燒烤
後來大家才發現 BBQ 爐缺少 propane（燒烤氣），於是有人立刻出去購買。整個過程沒有人抱怨，大家都很自然地互相合作。這種團隊精神，反而令整個聚會更溫暖、更有人情味。
當燒烤正式開始後，香味四溢，朋友們一邊聊天、一邊拿著飲品四處走動，還互相鼓勵上台唱歌。平時看起來很低調的朋友，突然變成了實力派歌手；有些朋友則展現出驚人的廚藝與組織能力。
說真的，這次聚會最大的收穫之一，就是我們發現：
原來我們的乒乓球朋友圈裡，藏著這麼多人才。
有人唱歌非常動聽。
有人燒烤技術媲美餐廳大廚。
有人默默負責安排與協調。
有人則不停帶動氣氛，令整天充滿笑聲。
而最令人驚訝的是：
整個活動帶來的快樂，遠遠超出大家原本的預期，但每人花費卻只大約 12 元左右。
現在很多人以為快樂一定要花很多錢，但這次聚會證明了一件事：當一群好朋友帶著熱情、友情與合作精神聚在一起時，真正的快樂其實非常簡單，而且價值遠超金錢。
特別感謝 Linda、Danny、Daniel、Emily，以及所有付出時間、食物、設備與心力的朋友們，讓這次活動如此成功。
更重要的是，感謝每一位到場參與、一起歡笑與享受美好時光的朋友。
回家途中，我和 Julie 都有同一個感受：
這已經不只是一場 BBQ 或卡拉 OK 聚會。
它更像是一個提醒：
在人生當中，友情、社區連結、歡笑與一起共享的時光，其實才是最珍貴的財富。
而從大家之後的回饋與笑容來看，我相信我們所有人，已經開始期待下一次聚會了。
