It was extreme cold warning by the Weather Network.   Richmond Hill recorded at 8:30 a.m. on 21 Jan 2019 a temperature -28C and feel like -36C.  My daughter called me and advised me to stay home. They would take their kids to school.  As we were free in the morning Julie and I went to a nearby McDonald Cafe.  It is inside Walmart Supercenter at Major McKenzie and Bayview.  As we already had our breakfast at home, we just ordered a cup of coffee with double cream and double sugar. My doctor won't recommend this, yet it is my favorite beverage from McDonald.  There we overheard some body talking on  her phone.  She was talking with a school bus driver who was supposed to pick up her son. We heard that there was no school bus for the day due to extreme cold weather.  Later in the afternoon, my daughter confirmed to me schools were open but no school bus service.

After coffee we did a bit shopping in Walmart.  It is newly renovated.  The  new layout with all merchandises perfectly displayed in their respective locations rendering a completely new look for Walmart. The signs are lighted up depicting their respective categories.  As people enter the front entrance,  these signs are eye catching.  They serve perfectly as the sign posts for the customers to find what they want.  The high ceiling was illuminated by countless florescent tubes .  These overhead  lights are bright yet not dazzling to the eyes.  Fridges for cold food such as veggies, meat  and beverages are brand new making the food more attractive and appealing to the customers.  This newly renovated Walmart provides its customers a very comfortable venue where people can enjoy a new shopping experience.  I just love going there taking a 30 minutes walk along the walkway and buy some food such as fruits, yogurt, salmon,  whole chicken, etc.  I highly recommend the Walmart roasted whole chicken to my readers in Richmond Hill.  It is so delicious, tender and juicy and sold only at C$8.99  The taste and texture of this roasted chicken is superb, simply no compare.

We continued  our morning shopping.  The next stop was Costco situated in Elgin Mills and Leslie.  We arrived at Costco around  9:45 a.m.   We needed to fill up our prescriptions. Probably due to the extreme weather warning, there were very few people and we could do our shopping leisurely without the usual hassle. We registered at the pharmacy registration counter and the medications was ready by 10:30 a.m.  In the interim, we checked around the different sections for items we might want. What we bought for the day are some frozen shrimps and frozen haddock fillets. We drove home and get ourselves some dumplings for our quick lunch.

We went for ping pong at Rouge Woods Community Centre at 1:00 p.m.  Thanks to the staff of the Rouge Woods Community Centre for their effort  the gym was nicely setup and ready with 16 tables setup in two rows.  The ping pong drop-in program for older adults 55 Plus there is eye opening.  We all like the new flooring and table tennis tables as well the high ceiling lights.  These  are the talk of the ping pong group during our after game chat. We started playing ping pong some play single and some play double. A very good time and workout for the day !!!

Canadian Senior Drivers BE READY! Major Driving License Updates

Aging Wisely: Rethinking Health Norms After 75

As we journey through life and reach our late 70s, 80s, and even 90s, it's only natural to reflect on how our bodies change—and how our health needs evolve. Many of us grew up hearing that "normal" blood pressure is 120/80, that bone strength must match that of a 30-year-old, or that regular cancer screenings are essential. But should we still be using the same health standards designed for young adults? The short answer is: not always. In fact, applying young adult norms to older adults can sometimes lead to unnecessary worry—or even harm. Let’s explore how aging changes our bodies and what that means for how we monitor our health. 🩺 Blood Pressure: A Little Higher May Be Healthier You've likely been told that 120/80 mmHg is the ideal blood pressure. But as we age, our arteries naturally stiffen. A systolic pressure between 130–140 may actually be safe and acceptable in older adults, especially if you feel well. Overly aggressive efforts to push blood pressur...
